APC use-case: Intralox
Uniform processes, material savings and faster restarting were also the arguments that sold Intralox (in Harahan, Lousiana) on APC. "We have about 600 different molds in use. Per day we have about 40 mold changes. The APC function yields enormous savings potential for us," explains Tom Moore, Technical Project Manager at Intralox in the interview.
Why is APC interesting for Intralox?
Tom Moore: We especially like the fact that every shot will be controlled and optimized. Therefore the machine is able to independently control important parameters resulting in the production of high quality products while saving precious raw materials. This helps our operators to run the machines efficiently with faster startups after mold changes. With over 600 different molds and roughly 40 changes per day this is an enormous benefit.
How did you experience the installation process?
Moore: We received excellent support from the KraussMaffei team. Installation was simple and had a negligible effect on ongoing production. When developing new products this is always of concern. We received brief hands-on training on the machines and we found the operation of APC simple and intuitive.
Where do you see real benefits for your production?
Moore: First of all we are always looking for solutions that help increase our production while maintaining high efficiency. We are positive that APC will support us in achieving constant production of high quality parts even when exposed to external conditions. At the same time APC will simplify the operation of all the machines so that our operators can run the entire production more efficiently. The first results look really promising and if APC fulfils our expectations we will surely install it on more machines.
